Man Hanging Out

I did the piece in 1996 when everyone was talking about the end of the century. What was going to be in the next century? What is the role of the intellectual going to be? I picked Freud because he was the founder of psychoanalysis — the intellectual face of the 19th century — and he was born in Freiberg.

Because I enjoy doing work for outdoor areas, for the street, I have to respect an appropriate scale so they won’t get lost and can be seen. Everything should have its own dimension. It suits me when things somehow correspond with architecture. The gallery world is withdrawn into itself and I like it when people can notice my things somewhere else. A sculpture, unlike a picture, is not created for indoors. It looks good under the open sky. There are plenty of open spaces around Prague. And modern sculpture is missing from them.
